Whether you are a walker, hiker or tramper there is a track or trail that can offer you a memorable outdoor experience. Being able to come home to very comfortable lodgings after enjoying a remarkable walking adventure in this special part of New Zealand is one of the benefits of staying at Oreti River House.
Three of New Zealand's Great Walks are in the region - Milford Track, Kepler Track and the Routeburn Track. These Great Walks travel along many kilometers of paths which traverse mountains, river valleys and ridges. They pass through some of New Zealands magnificent southern wilderness regions and normally take between 3-5 days to complete. However a part of these Great Walks can be experienced as a day trip which gives an introductory taste of their spectacular scenery and unique flora and fauna. A number of different organisations offer day trips with naturalist guides or small sections of the tracks can be walked independently.

Around the Mountains Cycle and Walking Trail
This cycle and walking track connects into Lumsden and can be used by pedestrians and cyclists to travel to Five Rivers or Mossburn. This trail is built on old railway easements offering low gradients away from vehicles on a nicely pounded grit pathway.
